Leadership

Earl joined the Bonavista team in July 2021 as President & Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for our strategic vision and overall management. Earl has over 40 years of industry experience with exploration and production companies, including over 28 years in senior management positions. Earl was most recently the CEO of Chaparral Energy in Oklahoma.
Earl graduated in 1993 from the University of Houston with a Master of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering and graduated in 1982 from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering.

Derek joined the Bonavista team in November 2021 and is responsible for the financial health of the company. Derek has 28 years of progressively senior finance and accounting experience in the exploration and production, oilfield services and capital market sectors. Prior to joining Bonavista, Derek was CFO and co-founder of Modern Resources Inc., a highly efficient Deep Basin producer and recipient of EPAC’s Top Private Emerging Producer Award.
Derek received a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from Queen’s University and holds the Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant and the Chartered Financial Analyst designations.

Chris joined the Bonavista team in January 2022 and is responsible for overseeing the continued operational excellence of the company. Chris has over 20 years of experience in the industry, and he has proven his strength in leading technical and operating teams through the senior leadership roles of both VP Operations and VP Engineering at Crescent Point Energy.
Chris graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2000 with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He holds a P.Eng designation with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta.

Bill joined the Bonavista team in January 2012 and has had a variety of roles including managing the Exploration Group, Deep Basin Team and Resource Strategy Group.
Bill has 37 years of exploration experience in Western Canada with multiple organizations. In January 2023, Bill was promoted to Vice President Exploration and is responsible for all exploration and development activities as they relate to corporate strategy and implementation.
Bill graduated from the University of Calgary in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and a minor in Geophysics. He has his professional designation with APEGA and is a member of the CEGA.

Colin joined the Bonavista team in September 2005 as Environmental Coordinator, and was promoted to Production Engineer in November 2007. In January 2011, Colin was promoted to Manager, Production Engineering and in October 2014, Colin was promoted to Vice President, Production. His responsibilities include overseeing our field operations team as well as our facility operations. Colin also leads our health, safety and environmental initiatives. Colin has over 20 years of industry experience in several fields.
Colin graduated from the University of Alberta in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental and Conservation Sciences.

Lynda returned to Bonavista in January 2006 as Vice President, Human Resources & Administration. She originally joined Bonavista as Supervisor, Corporate Services in 2002 and left in 2005 to join an intermediate energy trust as Manager, Corporate Services. Lynda is responsible for human resources policies and best practices as well as overseeing corporate administration. Lynda has over 23 years of industry experience in various positions of increasing responsibility, with a focus on human resources development.
Lynda graduated from Bath Technical College, England with a Diploma in Business Administration.

Sami joined the Bonavista team in December 2014 as Manager, Production Engineering and in May 2018 he moved to Manager, Drilling & Completions. In March 2023, Sami was promoted to Vice President, Development. His responsibilities include corporate reserves, budgeting, development and strategy. Sami is also responsible for Bonavista’s drilling, completions and abandonment operations.
Sami has over 26 years of management, engineering, operations and field experience in Western Canada with various oil and gas companies. Prior to joining Bonavista, Sami was VP Engineering and co-founder of Bulldog Oil & Gas Inc. and VP Engineering with Highrock Energy Ltd.
Sami graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (Distinction). He holds a P.Eng. designation with Association of Professional Engineers, Geoscientists of Alberta.
Directors
Eugene Davis joined our Board in August 2020 and serves as our Chair. Mr. Davis currently serves as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of PIRINATE Consulting Group, LLC (“PIRINATE”), a privately held consulting firm specializing in turnaround management, merger and acquisition consulting, hostile and friendly takeovers, proxy contests and strategic planning advisory services for domestic and international public and private business entities. Since forming PIRINATE in 1997, Mr. Davis has advised, managed, sold, liquidated and served as a chief executive officer, chief restructuring officer, director, chairman or committee chairman of a number of businesses operating in diverse sectors.
Prior thereto, Mr. Davis held many senior executive roles and commenced his career as an attorney and international negotiator. During the past five years, Mr. Davis has been a director of numerous public or formerly public companies. In addition, Mr. Davis is and has been a director of several private companies in various industries.
Mr. Davis is well-qualified to serve as Chair of our Board because of his substantial knowledge about strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, finance, accounting, capital structure and board practices and his extensive experience serving as a director of public and private companies in various industries.
Tina Antony brings over 25 years of experience specializing in M&A, corporate finance, risk oversight and governance. Between 2017 and 2023, Ms. Antony was the Vice President, General Counsel at the Alberta Teachers’ Retirement Fund, an institutional investor with over $23 billion under management and was a director of several of its portfolio companies. Prior thereto, she was on the executive of several publicly traded entities and prior to that a Securities and M&A partner at one of Canada’s largest national law firms. Ms. Antony was recently honoured as a C-Suite Executive of the Year.
Ms. Antony holds an ICD.D from the Rotman School of Management, and Bachelors of Law and of Music from the University of Calgary. She is also a director at Computer Modelling Group Ltd (CMG.TSX), and is a member of Women in Capital Markets, Pension Investment Association of Canada, the Institute of Corporate Directors, and the Past Chair of the board of Calgary Opera.
George Armoyan is Executive Chairman of G2S2 Capital Inc., President of Armco Capital Inc., and Chairman, President & CEO of Clarke Inc. Mr. Armoyan is an entrepreneur with extensive experience in real estate and various industries. Since 1982, Mr. Armoyan has successfully founded and grown numerous businesses, created shareholder value at several public companies through restructuring operations by applying a common-sense approach to business.
Mr. Armoyan serves on the Board of Clarke Inc. (TSX:CKI), Calfrac Well Services Ltd (TSX:CFW) and Bonavista Energy Corporation.
Jim Bowzer has 35 years of experience in the upstream energy industry and we welcomed him to our Board in October 2020. Mr. Bowzer is a member of the Executive Advisory Board for RLG International which serves as product & service advisors from the upstream and downstream oil and gas, manufacturing, airline and aerospace industries.
Mr. Bowzer has also served as a Director & Chief Executive Officer of Baytex Energy Corp. and was a Vice President for Marathon Oil Corporation with responsibility for shale plays throughout N. America. He has extensive experience in unconventional shale plays in the Bakken, Eagle Ford, Woodford and Canadian heavy oil.
Mr. Bowzer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Wyoming and completed the Graduate Advanced Management Program from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.
Tomer Cohen is Vice President of Investments at Clarke Inc. and consultant to the Armoyan family office. In this capacity, he has managed various oil and gas investments, including corporate restructuring and special situations, with a keen focus on unlocking shareholder value. Mr. Cohen previously held various operational and financial roles in Calgary in the natural gas sector, and has extensive experience in joint venture, business development, and contract negotiations.
Mr. Cohen has a Bachelor of Commerce degree with distinction from the University of Calgary and is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma society.
Van Dafoe has over 30 years of experience in the upstream oil and natural gas business. Most recently Mr. Dafoe held the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at ARC Resources Ltd. In that role he oversaw the finance, treasury, accounting, tax, risk management, capital markets, marketing, and information technology teams. He joined ARC in 1999. Previously, he held accounting, finance and management positions with various companies in Calgary.
Mr. Dafoe received a Bachelor of Commerce – Honours from the University of Manitoba and is a member of the Alberta Chartered Professional Accountants. He is also a director at Richochet Oil Corp. and at the Bethany Care Foundation.
Andrew Judson brings over 24 years’ experience in Capital Markets and Private Equity, focused on all aspects of the energy industry – upstream E&P, oilfield services and midstream processing. Mr. Judson has covered financial institutions across Canada, the US and Europe and energy companies operating domestically and around the world. Mr. Judson currently holds the position of Senior Advisor at Fort Capital, one of Canada’s leading independent investment banking advisory firms.
Mr. Judson graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Arts in History (Distinction) and an MBA in Finance (Distinction). He also serves as a Director at Pieridae Energy Limited, Condor Petroleum Inc., the Fraser Institute and Winsport.
Joe Zalewski joined our Board in August 2020 bringing over 23 years of experience in finance and investment. Mr. Zalewski is a Senior Vice President at Macquarie Investment Management in the fixed income group. Previously, he held the roles of analyst and portfolio manager at several investment management firms including Third Avenue Management, Credit Suisse, and Lehman Brothers.
Mr. Zalewski graduated from Duke University with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and Political Science. He has served on the boards of various companies as a director and an observer, including Liberty Tire Recycling and EasyLink Services.
Earl Reynolds joined our Board July 2021 to coincide with his appointment as our President & Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Reynolds has over 40 years of industry experience with exploration and production companies, including over 28 years in senior management positions and was most recently the CEO of Chaparral Energy in Oklahoma.
Mr. Reynolds graduated in 1993 from the University of Houston with a Master of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering and graduated in 1982 from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering.
